All ABOUT JIGS

I was born in the love month of our 12 month calendar, at the Manila Medical Center to a family of health providers and educators.

I was the 1st and only girl grandchild of my maternal grandparents and was obviously pampered till I got older.

My childhood summers, were spent at San Juan Batangas where I enjoyed watching my grandmother cook and tend to her enormous garden of orchids. I miss the days I was tasked to follow her about and water her plants and sweeping the dry leaves of our huge garden.

Growing up, I was educated in the best catholic private schools in Quezon City.

I grew up finding comfort in reading a good book, listening to music, writing and doing oil paintings and charcoal drawings.

I was sort of the boyish type of girl growing up, I enjoyed playing badminton, swimming and kickball on occasion volleyball.

Needless to say, I was sheltered from the harsh realities of society and made to believe that poverty does not exist. That there was no such thing.

However,  I grew up headstrong and rebelled my way through things I believed were right. Those action packed scenes in my life always never ended quite well, hahahah....

But, regardless of the anxiety it caused mostly my mother, I am glad that I asserted myself to things I believed were right in my perception because it made me stronger as a person knowing what I wanted and how I would get it.

In college, now, that was a different story all together.

I learned that life, was not really what I thought it was, and I am thankful till this very day, that my life, took a turn when i served the Philippine National Red Cross.

I was humbled by the experience of being with the less privilege that the concept of voluntarism has been my stronghold in the way I look at life.

My involvement, in the youth sector brought me to my next phase of social awareness and I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to be chosen as one of the best and brightest youth leaders in the country as mandated by Law.

I represented the City of Manila to the National Youth Parliament as part of the pioneering batch of youth leaders to be convened representing all four (4) subsectors of the youth society.

An awakening, and an awareness that many young people do not even realize that there are so many things that need to be addressed.

Despite the fact that the young people of the country, is considered as one of the  biggest part of the country's population,  there seems to be less participation from the young generation to take active part in making our country great.

I graduated as a nurse, and passed the Nursing Licensing Exam, yet the call to make a difference led me to work in a position that was never part of my plans.

For more than 13 years I have served the youth sector as a trainer and program/ policy development officer of the Office of the President National Youth Commission.

Life has its ups and its downs, some are tragic others are worth remembering. But, at the end of it all, it just proves that things happen for a reason. It is up to us, how to make the best of what life throws at us.
